Torn, by Pastor Jud Wilhite, is on the topic of faith; a topic that appears alongside the apocalypse, to be dominating the Christian publishing markets. What makes Torn stand apart from the other books in this genre is Wilhite’s take on the subject of faith. Rather than dance around the subject by taking Scriptures our of context, Wilhite immediately turns to the Bible as his source for faith and suffering, interwoven with experiences.
Wilhite’s challenge for the reader to hand over pain and suffering in the midst of trials and sadness, to God our Father is the essence of the book. We can only heal ourselves so much before we realize it just doesn’t work anymore but when we turn that sadness and anger and hurt to God, He can then begin to guide us through the healing process and maybe even give answer to the question, Why?
No one would accuse Torn of being an academic book, and that is not Wilhite’s intention. Torn is to be used for us to consider our own feelings towards God when things seem to fall apart and we have that one word question we always want an answer to, “Why?’.
Even if you have every book on the subject of suffering and faith, Torn is definitely worth checking out and the chances are good that it will become your go-to book, outside of the Bible, on the subject.
